At Aerial Firefighting Mentor, we are dedicated mentors specializing in three key areas

Ground School

Teaching is at the heart of what we do, and we have developed extensive material aimed at filling educational gaps in critical areas. Most of our resources are available for free download. However, we recognize that instructor-led lessons are often essential.

We believe in deliberate practice—the idea that the quality of your training is as important as the quantity. It’s not just about the number of hours you train, but what you accomplish during those hours that truly matters.

We can assist with the following:

Operational:

· Flight Planning and Ferry flights.

· AFM overview AT802 - Fireboss.

· AFM overview Thrush 710.

· Fire Behavior.

· Drop Safety.

· Formation flying.

· Scooping Performance - Basics.

· Scooping Performance- Advanced Techniques.

· Psychological aspects - Soft Skills: Decision - making & multitasking.

Safety:

· Hazard Log Aerial Firefighting.

· Root Cause Analysis.

· Safety Culture.

· Accidents study.

Flight Training & Mentoring

Flight courses are conducted through our trusted network of organizations and individuals. If we can't schedule a specific course due to our busy firefighting agendas, we will ensure you are in good hands and will coordinate and supervise your progress.

Training in these areas separately with a non-specialized instructor is better than not training at all. If that's your only option, please pursue it.

However, training as part of a comprehensive program, taught by experienced mentors who are deeply connected to the reality of Aerial Firefighting, will elevate your knowledge, awareness, and safety to a whole new level!

We can guide you through the following path:

 ·Tail wheel adaptation

·Safe flying - stalls and abnormal positions prevention

·Seaplane flying

·Formation flying

·Class Rating AT-4-5-6-8 SET / Wheels & Fireboss

·Class Rating Snow / Ayres SET

Through our extensive network of contacts, we have access to a diverse fleet of aircraft, ensuring coverage of all the skills set needed to become a safe and proficient aerial firefighter

Scooping Assessments for Aerial Firefighting - Enhancing Safety and Efficiency

Water reconnaissance is a crucial skill for float plane pilots, essential for ensuring their safety and the safety of operations when scooping from bodies of water. Given its relevance, we should recruit our pilots accordingly, prepare them well and keep up with innovations available. By identifying potential hazards, suitable scooping sites, and effectively assessing different water conditions, pilots will make more informed decisions, minimize risks, and reduce events.

In this brief guide, we will explore the root causes of past incidents. We will also demonstrate the potential barriers that are readily available for immediate implementation. And we will end up balancing existing technologies as Garmin Navionics with traditional methods.

Mastering ForeFlight for Aerial Firefighting

ForeFlight is an incredible tool that enhances situational awareness, increases productivity, and simplifies decision-making for pilots and flight crews worldwide. It's widely used across all aviation sectors, including general, business, commercial, and military. In aerial firefighting, its usage is growing rapidly.

Despite its benefits, ForeFlight's extensive features can be overwhelming. The official guide is over 500 pages long, making it challenging to find specific information quickly.

This brief guide, developed by The Aerial Firefighting Mentor, is designed for pilots in aerial firefighting and ferry industries, especially those from less technological backgrounds. It simplifies the learning process, helping you get started and become proficient at it.

Extreme Fire Behavior for Aerial Firefighters

We have dedicated considerable time and effort to creating and refining the attached course over the past few years to address this critical topic.

The course takes a few hours to complete, but we believe it is worth your time and will provoke thoughtful consideration. Be sure that if you stay around firefighting long enough, you will face extreme fire behavior and when that happens, you will appreciate the extra knowledge.

After attending many Fire Behavior courses in different countries, we realized, that while some are good for general knowledge, most are tailored for ground personnel, while what is out there for pilots, it is usually not enough.

What we designed is made specifically for flight personnel, aiming to highlight how extreme fire behavior can impact our missions and how hazardous some scenarios could get.

Sea Scooping - Marine Operations AT802 Fireboss

Sea Operations is an advanced scenario. It should be reserved for pilots who have a high level of proficiency in scooping water from still water environments.

The information presented in this guide is based on personal experience and best-known practices in the operation of the AT802A Fire Boss for water scooping and marine firefighting operations. It is intended to serve as an educational resource to supplement your knowledge and skills.

Daniel Moreno has been a great contributor to The Aerial Firefighting Mentor program, and this guide is no exception.

As water sports enthusiast and Fireboss Instructor who has spent seasons in the Balearic Islands and in Sweden surrounded by the Baltic Sea, he has managed to compile all his specific experience on the topic into this detailed guide.
